The Money Pit

The day we closed on our house and FINALLY got the keys we walked in and found this in our dining room:

Ice Dam

Jeff spent most of the next day removing an ice dam from the roof.

Last week:

We had an electrician out to move the electrical in the soffits. A drywall guy to repair the walls and ceiling where the soffits were. An ceiling painter to add popcorn to those areas and paint the ceiling.

Dining Room

The cabinets are ordered and I am working on the rest of the house. I went to school for typography and have worked with typefaces for 25 years so I LOVE putting words on my walls. First wall (dining room) is done.

I always wanted the old fashioned fork & spoon on my wall. Jeff never understood. LUCKILY he takes business trips and leaves me with an allowance!

Kitchen - Soffits!

Removing one of the two soffits.

"There shouldn't be anything in the soffits" is what we were told. BOY were they wrong! The soffit was open to the attic and the eaves. We had a waterfall of insulation come down with the soffit! I am beginning to question if this kitchen is really a "DIY" project. Does anyone know of a good contractor?

Kitchen

Renovating our kitchen! This will be a long process since Jeff has 3 business trips in the next month.

The appliances have got to go. Were we supposed to measure before we bought a new fridge?

Our cabinet salesman told us this was a very "proud" fridge. HUGE! 

This cabinet has to go. 

So does this one.

I guess we are placing our cabinet order sooner than we thought we would.

We did it!

We sold our new fancy house and bought a 40 year old foreclosed fixer-upper!

After 25 years of commuting downtown I have quit my job! What will I do with all my free time?

• Be a mom.
• Renovate my kitchen.
• Make this house a home.
• Keep my house clean.
• Learn to cook!
• Have a huge vegetable and herb garden.
• Learn to can vegetables and make pickles.

Will I get bored? Will I become hooked on soap operas? Will we still have the money to travel? The next year will be an adventure!
